How to give your web developer access to your Whostpress account
Add a sub-account with exactly the permissions they need — no shared passwords, revoke anytime. Takes about 2 minutes.

Before you start
Ask your developer for:
- Their email address (they'll receive an invitation and use this to log in)
- Their full name
- Their phone number (optional but recommended for account recovery)
Step-by-step
Log in to your Whostpress account
Go to https://whostpress.com/clientarea.php and log in with your usual email and password.
Open the Contacts area
Click your name in the top-right corner → Contacts / Sub-Accounts.
Or go directly to: https://whostpress.com/clientarea.php?action=contacts
Add a new contact
At the top of the "Choose Contact" dropdown, pick "Add New Contact" and fill in your developer's details:
- First Name, Last Name
- Company Name (optional)
- Email address ← this is what they'll log in with
- Phone Number (optional)
Turn them into a sub-account
Scroll down and check the box: "Activate Sub-Account"
Two things happen when you tick this:
- A password field appears — set them a temporary password (they can change it after their first login)
- A permissions panel appears — this is where you control exactly what they can do
Set the right permissions
Tick only what your developer needs. Use this matrix as a guide:

Save
Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes. Your developer will get a welcome email at the address you entered with their login link.
What your developer sees
They log in at the same URL (https://whostpress.com/clientarea.php) using their own email + the password you set. They see only the parts of your account you enabled — everything else is hidden.
Your own password stays private. You can revoke their access at any time.
After the project — revoke access
Same page (Contacts / Sub-Accounts):
- Pick their name from the dropdown
- Untick "Activate Sub-Account" to disable login while keeping contact info, or click Delete Contact to remove them entirely
- Click Save Changes
? Security checklist
- Give the minimum permissions needed. You can always add more later.
- Never share your primary password. Sub-accounts exist precisely so you don't have to.
- Rotate their password if their laptop is ever lost or stolen — just set a new one on the same screen.
- Revoke access when the project ends. No "in case we ever need to come back."
- Turn on 2FA on your master account — Security Settings → Two-Factor Authentication.
